As a result of a few problems receiving mail from my college over the summer, I had to register for university this year in person. After queuing for over an hour outside registry, I found out the cause of all my communication problems.
Another student, named Robert Liu, had some how changed my registered address with the college to something else (i.e. theirs). Most likely human error from the college, but it brings up some interesting points on security.
I’ve had mail intended for other Robert Liu’s (believe me, there are many Robert Liu’s), delivered to my college pigeon hole (including Amazon orders, electricity bills and bank statements), and also had many mis-directed emails due to my original college email address being robert.liu1 (meaning tutors sending tutorial times to the wrong person). Although I’ve requested and received a new alias, r.liu, some mail still gets a bit lost.
Although in most cases, us Robert Liu’s can normally sort stuff out like this between ourselves, I can’t help but think that this Robert Liu managed to receive my third year results and registration forms. If you’re reading this, Mr Liu, then please erase all knowledge of my results from your brain.
