Replaced my VW with a Ford

Posted by on 4 December 2011

I hope those of you who read my blog don’t think married life has bogged me down as I haven’t blogged for almost 3 months! Whoops. I’m actually enjoying married life very happily but I’ve been occupied with various stuff which I won’t go into. If you’re my friend on Facebook, you will have seen some of my wedding photos but my wife is internet shy, so I won’t publish them here.

Anyways, part of my problems was that my Polo GTI decided to have a cam belt failure 10k before it was due to be replaced. It destroyed the engine and I decided it was no longer economical to repair. This was how it was after I got it back from the garage. Sold it to another VW enthusiast who would repair it themselves.

After relying on public transport for a few weeks, I finally found a replacement. The used car market is somewhat different today with inflated prices, high demand and low supply. I eventually found this 2007 Ford Focus 1.8 TDCi Zetec Climate.

As you can see it’s in a pretty good condition. Being a Diesel I’m hoping it will give me  55-70 mpg on my motorway drives. It’s a much larger car compared to my Polo and perhaps slightly bigger than the VW Golf ‘s which I was also looking at. Not really a stand out car but hopefully it will be cheap to run which was the main thing I was looking for.

Very unlucky to read about the Timing Belt failure on the VW. Just thought I’d post for future reference, If you’re worried about Timing Belt (cambelt) failure, you can now insure your car engine against this, for only £29.95 per year.

Timing Belt Failure Insurance gives you up to £2,000 repair cover against Timing belt Failure damage, includes wear & tear, and consequential damage cover!
