Canon IXUS 980 IS / IXY 3000 IS

Posted by on 19 November 2008

I don’t think Canon would survive without people like me. I only bought my latest Canon IXY 910 IS camera less than 3 months ago and now I’m already eyeing up the latest release from Canon – the top of the compact line IXUS 980 IS (UK) / SD990 IS (US) / IXY3000 IS (Japan):

Canon IXY 3000 IS / IXUS 980 IS

Buy it now: Canon Digital IXUS 980 IS Camera – Black (14.7MP, 3.7x Optical Zoom) 2.5″ PureColor LCD II Viewfinder It features a massive 14.7 megapixels of which I probably only need 6, Canon’s new DIGIC4 processor with enhanced video compression and other tricks but I’m particularly keen to try out the manual shutter/aperture settings. If I buy this, that would be my 6th Canon camera in as many years. Pay day tomorrow… :)

I am in fact planning to purchase one today here in Tokyo, Japan. (American resident in Japan) In fact I found a place in Tokyo for under 30,000 yen! There is such a myriad of all these compact cameras with a variety line up from a myriad of manufacturers as well. It really gets difficult to choose the best balance of quality, budget and features for something as the all-the-time in your pocket, type of camera. I also just recently purchased the Canon PowerShot SX1 which can shoot HD video as well. Beautiful camera, BUT, it’s not something you would carry around on a routine basis. The P&S Canon IXY 3000 IS does the trick to have instant AVI (audio-video-images) on-the-fly wherever you go, whenever you want. Guess this camera is not on the U.S. market or other overseas destinations apparently.

    Happy New Year in 2009

I actually checked one of these out in Bic Camera a few weeks back and as soon as I picked it up, I could feel it was a quality piece of equipment. But I haven’t bought it yet since I did only get my current camera just this summer – didn’t want to over indulge. Happy New Year too!

Bought the camera tonight at 28,300 yen. Have yet to use it. late in Tokyo and was also with friends as well while bouncing around the backroads of Akihabara. For best prices, confirm the product against http://www.bestgate.net or http://www.kakaku.com for comparative (and cheapest) prices.

    Cheers,

    Rob:
Since we are both Japan (supposedly) lets go grab a beer or food, since we are now in the primary holiday of the year for Japan! 要するに、お正月 js.matrix@gmail.com. Am in the Kichijoji area. So, not too far off the beaten path from Nakano. Which I lived in for a few years prior to my current location.
