In complete contrast to last year, I have now secured accomodation for the next academic year! Woohoo!
At this point last year, I was still doing exams and when I finished, there was probably less than a week before I flew off to Zurich. Being a very last minute person I didn’t actually find a room to stay in until 1 week into the start of the autumn term. So it was a bit of a mad panic with lots of commuting back in October 2004. At least now I have the peace of mind that it’s all sorted out now, deposit paid, contract signed, all I have to do is collect the keys and move in when the time comes.
The landlord was pretty nice and he even bought us all a cappuccino. We met up today to sign the contract, and there were three others. Two of them would be moving in at the same time but don’t really know much about them though, except they’re doing computer science. I suppose you want to hear about the room? Well, I can’t actually remember much about it but when I saw it, it was a decent size and?had a?double bed, desk and wardrobe. What else would you need? It’ll cost me £110 a week, which I’m sure will give most students a heart attack, but for those in London, that’s around average and a very good price for the size and location (in my opinion).
The location is at the beginning of Queensway. Literally right next to the “Queen’s Ice and Bowl” if you know where that is. It’s a few seconds walk to Queensway tube, although that’s currently closed for refurbishment, so the next tube station is about a minutes walk away, at Bayswater. It’ll only take about 20 minutes to walk across Kensington Gardens and then I’ll be in the lecture hall. Ok, it’s not as close as my first and second year, where it took a maximum of 4 minutes to get into college, but it’s good exercise. (Mind you, the only exercise I do apart from walking is either carrying heavy Tesco’s bags or typing on the keyboard…if that counts.) Parking is like anywhere else in London. Just watch the parking attendants. They’re always ready to slap that ticket on your windscreen! Although there is a multi-storey car park opposite, or pay and display parking out front.
So another thing off my mind. Means I can be even lazier now!
